(Statewide) – You could be arrested if you’re standing less than 25 feet from a police investigation or fire scene under a new state law.
House Enrolled Act 1186 goes into effect July 1 and gives authorities a 25-foot buffer zone.
If a member of the public is asked to move back and doesn’t comply, they can be charged with a Class C misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
State Rep. Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville) introduced the legislation and says Indiana is one of the first states to pass such a law.
