Gov. opposes proposed Title IX trans, sports amendment

Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-IN)

(Indianapolis, IN) – Gov. Eric Holcomb has come out against a proposed amendment to Title IX that would give transgender students the ability to play sports.

The proposed amendment from the U.S. Department of Education would make banning transgender students from participating in school athletics because of their gender identity a Title IX violation.

Holcomb joined 24 other governors in opposing the plan.

If approved, the federal guideline would likely override Indiana and other state laws that ban transgender students from playing sports based on gender identity.
