TERRE HAUTE– Nathan Christensen starts work Monday as Indiana State’s new Athletic Director. Christensen says he knows the Sycamore community’s looking for winners, something proven by the run ISU men’s basketball made last season.
He adds he could see during the process there are many outstanding people at Indiana State, who are hungry for success. Christensen arrives in Terre Haute from another Missouri Valley Conference school, South Dakota State, and was at Northern Iowa for 5 years. ISU President Mike Goddard says Christensen’s experience with SDSU’s Jackrabbits and his familiarity with the Valley were key factors in the hire. Goddard says he wanted someone who understood the midwest, and in his words, “who we were” at Indiana State, as what he calls an upper-level mid-major institution.
Goddard adds that Chrstensen’s external focus on revenue generation and fundraising will be very important in moving Sycamore sports forward, too. Christensen expresses confidence he can roll with changes in college sports, and finds the Valley a good fit for ISU, alongside similar institutions.
One of the initial tasks on Christensen’s plate will be to hire a new Sycamore baseball coach, following the departure of Mitch Hannahs for South Florida. He says the search is already underway.
