NEW CASTLE, Ind. – A New Castle teenager may be learning about the consequences of bad decisions.
The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to cemetery mischief last month. Authorities allege he and a friend damaged 27 headstones causing an estimated $20,000 in damage at the Lewisville Cemetery in July.
All of the damaged headstones dated back to the 19th century, including one that marked the grave of Lewis Freeman, the founder of the town of New Castle.
The judge ordered the teen Monday to pay the cemetery board $12,180 in restitution, according to the Richmond Pal-Item.
The co-defendant in the case has entered a not-guilty plea.
