Nancy passed away at The Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg on Friday, September 20. She was born in Hammond, Indiana on April 30, 1936. Her parents were Marvin and Elizabeth Anderson. She was married for 60 years to Thomas H. DeWees.
Nancy was a 1954 graduate of Hughes High School in Cincinnati. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1958, earning degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Teachers College. At UC, she was a Dean’s List student and very active in student activities. Nancy was president of her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was selected for membership in Motor Board, the University’s honorary recognizing academic achievement and leadership. She met her husband, Tom, at UC when they were appointed co-chairpersons of a university committee.
Nancy and Tom were married in 1959. They had two children, Pamela Sue and Thomas Edward. Nancy went to work as a teacher at Finneytown High School. She became a full time mom when she and Tom moved to Lawrenceburg, Indiana to join her parents in opening a family business, Ande Chevrolet-Olds. With the children grown, Nancy went back to work as a substitute teacher in the Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn Schools. She was a “full time sub” at South Dearborn High School. Nancy was a “Heart of Gold” volunteer. She was recognized as a Dearborn County Hospital “Pink Lady” with more than 11,000 hours of service. She also gave many hours of service to the Community Mental Health program, Kid-Ability , teaching elementary school kids how to recognize, avoid and report physical and sexual abuse. Nancy also gave her time to the Clearing House, P.A.W.S, Girl Scouts, and her church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Pamela Sue Minich. She is survived by her husband, Tom; her son Tom, (wife Sandy), son-in-law, John Minich; one granddaughter, Mary Kate DeWees, three grandsons, T.J DeWees, Joe and Nick Minich, two great grandchildren, Alya and Jack Minich. There will be a private burial service. There will be a memorial service at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 12, 2019 with visitation 12-2PM and service at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 4937 St. Road 48, Lawrenceburg, In 47025.
