BATESVILLE, IN — Margaret Mary Health (MMH) officials say the hospital experienced a much-needed decline in the overall volume of admitted COVID-19 patients at the end of last week.
The overall percentage of hospitalized COVID patients who are unvaccinated continues to trend around 86 percent.
MMH last week had seven COVID inpatient admissions, nine discharges, two transfers, and two deaths.
The hospital currently has 26 patients on the Med/Surg floor, with two of those patients in the Special Care Unit.
Eight of the patients are COVID-positive and all are unvaccinated. (See charts for current patient volumes.)
Emergency Room volumes are still very high, resulting in much longer wait times than normal.
In a statement, hospital officials wrote, “We understand this can be frustrating, but please know our teams are working hard and as quickly as possible to see every patient who needs care. We recommend for asymptomatic patients or those with mild illness refrain from using the ER for COVID-19 testing. COVID-19 testing in the ER is being limited to those patients most likely being admitted to the hospital.”
The percentage of patients testing positive for COVID has increased again this week, with 36.5 percent of patients – or 100 in total – testing positive. (See chart for testing details)
The hospital said those who need to be tested for COVID-19 should contact their primary care provider for an outpatient test to be completed through the MMH lab or schedule an appointment at a local testing site through coronavirus.in.gov.
Hospital officials are urging anyone who is not vaccinated or are eligible to receive a vaccine booster shot to please consider doing so.
