Ms. Betty Louise (White) Scott

Ms. Betty Louise (White) Scott, age 85, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on October 19, 1937 on Drakes Ridge in Switzerland County, Indiana to George Elmer and Mary Ellen (Cole) White. Betty’s maternal-grandparents, George Thomas and Lona (Brindley) Cole lived on Drakes Ridge. Within three years Betty lost her father and grandfather. Later her Grandmother remarried to Noah “Poppy” Pullium and her mother remarried her step-father, Leslie McKenzie and she gained another brother, Lewis. The family moved to Vevay to the Schenck Mansion. They lost their step-grandfather Poppy while living there. Betty’s sister, Loretta and her brother, Donald were born at home. The family moved to Market Street in Vevay where that became their permanent home. Betty graduated from Vevay High School, class of 1957. Betty worked for the US Shoe Factory for two years and was later employed in 1959 for Schenley Distillery in Greendale, Indiana until she retired on September 30, 1988. She was later employed for Old Fitzgerald Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1988-1994. Betty moved back to Vevay, Indiana on Pike Street where she resided until her passing. Betty was later employed for five years at the Vevay VFW Post #5396. She went to work for the Reds Liquor Store from 2000-2015. Betty retired for the last time. Betty was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 Ladies Auxiliary. Family and friends were everything to Betty. She was a caring and fun loving person. Betty had a wonderful life; not always and easy one, but she was not one to complain and would always make the best of whatever situation that came her way. Most of her spare time was spent enjoying life with her family and friends. Everything from attending motorcycle and NASCAR races to camping at Bluegrass Festivals, Friendship, the Regatta or getting away to the Smokey Mountains. Betty loves the mountains! They were her special place of peace and beauty. She also enjoyed listening to Old Country and Bluegrass music, working in her yard and then enjoy a cold one on her deck to watch the birds. She liked playing solitaire, working crossword puzzles and watching NASCAR racing, Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds and IU Basketball on TV. She also loved spending time with her great-grandsons. Betty passed away at 10:56 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Hospice Care of Saint Elizabeth in Edgewood, Kentucky.

Betty will be missed by her daughters, Robin Jewell and her husband, Jerry of Rising Sun, IN and Kimberley “Kimmie” Peters of Hanover, IN; her grandson, Thomas Scott Peters of Hanover, IN; her granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Peters of Hanover, IN; her great-grandsons, Caiden Matthew Whisman of Hanover, IN and Jaxson King Coy of Hanover, IN; her step-sons, Mark Scott of Louisville, KY and Wayne Scott of Rising Sun, IN; her brother, Donald McKenzie and his wife, Mardi of Tuttle, OK; her sisters, Lona F. Mathews of Largo, FL and Loretta Hayes and her husband, Paul of Vevay, IN; her sisters-in-law, Judy Kay White of Vevay, IN and Lynda McKenzie of Vevay, IN and her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins that she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Kaye Scott, died January 31, 1965; her father, George Elmer White, died April 13, 1939; her mother, Mary Ellen (Cole) McClellan, died February 27, 2014; her step-father, Leslie L. McKenzie, died March 27, 1964; her maternal-grandparents, George Thomas Cole, died in 1937 and Lona (Brindley) Cole Pullium, died in 1959; her step-grandfather, Noah “Poppy” Pullium, died in 1943; her step-son, Raymond Eugene “Gene” Scott, died March 10, 2007; her brothers, Elmer Lloyd “Dumpy” White, died February 23, 2014; Lewis Edward McKenzie, died October 1, 1989, David “Buck” White, died November 13, 2003, Ernest Ray “Ernie” McKenzie, died June 5, 2016, Richard L. “Rick” McKenzie, died August 1, 2010 and Robert Lee “Hardly” McKenzie, died June 13, 2018; her nephews, Richard L. “Dickie” White, died March 28, 1997, Paul “Bryan” Hayes, died April 14, 2021, James Leslie “Jamie” Hayes, died August 29, 2022 and Michael “Ryan” Mathews, died September 7, 2021; her niece, Megan Shelby Hayes, died June 22, 2004; her great-niece, Loni Amber Lynn Turner, died August 30, 2010 and her great-nephew, Ryan Michael “R.J.” Mathews, died September 12, 2004.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow a later date in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
