Mrs. Freda Joy (Johnson) Skaggs, age 57, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on March 5, 1960, in Dayton, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late, Fred and Geneva (Cole) Johnson. She resided in the Switzerland County community, since the age of 10 and was a 1978 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. She received a degree in business and her associates degree as a Registered Nurse from Ivy Tech Community College in Madison, Indiana. Freda was united in marriage on March 3, 1979, at the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, to the love of her life, Kip A. Skaggs, Sr. and to this union arrived a son, Kip Arthur “Kippy” Skaggs, Jr. who passed away on October 9, 2003. Freda and Kip shared over 38 years of marriage together until her sudden passing. She was a former employee for Vevay Shop Quik and Roxano’s Restaurant, for several years. Freda was currently the Assistant Director of Nursing for Gallatin Nursing & Rehab in Warsaw, Kentucky, for over 18 years. She was a former member of the Switzerland Baptist Church and a member of the New Macedonia Regular Baptist Church in Newport, Kentucky. Freda enjoyed reading, arts and crafts and flowers, but most of all, spending time with her loving family and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and co-workers. Freda passed away at 11:00 pm, Wednesday October 18, 2017, at her residence in Vevay, Indiana.
Freda will be deeply missed by her loving husband of over 38 years, Kip A. Skaggs, Sr. of Vevay, IN; her mother, Geneva (Cole) Johnson of Vevay, IN; her sisters, Helen Gabbard and her husband: Junior of Altro, KY, Jalia Nelson and her husband: John of Crestview, FL, Carolyn Burns and her husband: Butch of Worthville, KY, Lake Rayls and her husband: Larry of Vevay, IN and Nancy Rose and her husband: Roy of Madison, IN; her brothers, Larry Johnson of Louisville, KY, Fred Johnson and his wife: Tammy of Madison, IN, Phillip Johnson and his wife: Shelly of Vevay, IN, Mitchell Johnson and his wife: Joyce of Sabastian Branch, KY and Mark Johnson of Vevay, IN; her several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; her aunt, Jalia Stamper of Newport, KY and her uncle, Beech Cole and his wife: Mahala of Cold Spring, KY.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Johnson, died October 4, 2001; her son, Kip Arthur “Kippy” Skaggs, Jr., died October 9, 2003; her infant-brother, Paul Johnson; her paternal grandparents, Albert and Lake (Haddix) Johnson; her maternal grandparents, Chester and Polly Cole; her niece, Melissa Neve Johnson, died December 21, 1998 and her several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Patrick Turner, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
