Mrs. Dorothy Katherine (Staggs) Gutierrez, age 81, of Switzerland County, Indiana, entered this life on May 8, 1943 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky to the late, John William and Leona Blanche (Reeves) Staggs. She was a 1961 graduate of Flemingsburg High School. Dorothy was united in marriage on November 17, 1973 to Glenn W. Cottey. Dorothy moved to the East Enterprise Community in 1986. She was employed for Randall Textron, Inc. in Vevay, Indiana for over 10 years. Dorothy was united in marriage in 1994 to José Trevino “Joe” Gutierrez and they shared 23 years of marriage together until his passing on February 6, 2017. Dorothy passed away at 2:09 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Glenna Nicholas and her husband, Dan of Indianapolis, IN; her son, Jeff Staggs of East Enterprise, IN; her son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Reed of Vevay, IN; her step-daughter, Cindy Little and her husband, Barry of Dallas, GA; her step-sons, Arthur Gutierrez of Indianapolis, IN, Jose T. Gutierrez, Jr. and his wife, Sydney of Indianapolis, IN, Anthony Gutierrez of Indianapolis, IN, and Andy Gutierrez and his wife, Maria of West Lafayette, IN; her grandchildren, Jackie, Zachary, Timothy, Adam, Angela, and Jennifer; her great-granddaughter, Joanna; her several step-grandchildren; her several step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Wayne Staggs of Morehead, KY and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John William Staggs, died December 8, 1977; her mother,Leona Blanche (Reeves) Staggs, died January 8, 1992; her husbands, Glenn W. Cottey, died October 17, 1989 and José Trevino “Joe” Gutierrez, died February 6, 2017; her daughter, Rinda (Staggs) Reed, died October 1, 2024; her step-daughter, Dora Adkins, died December 31, 2007; her sisters, Wilma Frances Vickroy, died April 14, 2018, and Thelma Joyce Staggs, died July 31, 2003 and her brothers, William Claude “Buck” Staggs, died April 26, 1991 and Charles Leo Staggs, died September 27, 2000.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, IN 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2025, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, IN 47043.
Interment will follow in the Glencoe Cemetery, Glencoe, Kentucky.
