Mr. Mickey Lee Mathews, age 67, of Patriot, Indiana, entered this life in Vevay, Indiana. He was the son of the late James Cecil “Petie” and Hazel Louise (Ferguson) Mathews. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana where he attended school. Mickey was united in marriage to Rosemarie Reed on January 25, 1977 in Bell County, Texas. This union was blessed with two children, Amy and JD. Mickey was later united in marriage to Loretta Hite. Mickey was later united in marriage on August 19, 2005 to Beverly Joyce Evans in Fairview, Indiana. Bev and Mickey shared 19 years of marriage together until his passing. Mickey was employed in maintenance and warehouse for Belterra Casino & Resort for over seven years. He was later employed for Evans Construction in Kentucky and for Pic at Kentucky Utilities. Mickey was later employed for the Town of Patriot for three years. Mickey was a former member of the Royal Order of the Rednecks of Patriot, Indiana. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering in the garage, yard work, woodworking, hunting, fishing and riding his golf cart. He loved his friends deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. Mickey passed away with his loving family by his side at 8:13 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at his home in Patriot, Indiana.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Beverly Joyce “Bev” (Evans) Mathews of Patriot, IN; his daughters and son, Amy Copeland and her husband, Sam of Versailles, IN, JD Mathews and his companion, Melissa Bolton of Fairview, IN and Lindsay Stultz and her companion, Lewis Fritter of near Pleasant, IN; his step-children, Brandon Kelly and his wife, Amy of Greendale, IN and Ashley Kelly of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren, Lauren Copeland, Cierra Copeland, Morgan Mathews and Holden Mathews; his step-grandchildren, Robert Kelly, Caleb Kelly and Colton Carpenter; his faithful furry best friend, Jake; his sisters, Phyllis Christman of Bennington, IN, Sharon Johnson and her husband, Dave of Madison, IN, Kathy Scott of Toccoa, GA, Linda Ricketts and her husband, Larry of Edinburgh, IN and Bonnie Detraz and her husband, Edsel of Sheridan, IN; his brothers, Raymond “Bimbo” Mathews and his wife, Bonnie of Madison, IN and Jim Mathews of Vevay, IN; his several nieces and nephews; his friends who were family, Robbie Miller, John and Lisa Cilfton, Chad Jones, Vickie and Jessie Ware, Debbie Evans and Pat Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Cecil “Petie” Mathews, died July 30, 2009; his mother, Hazel Louise (Ferguson) Mathews, died November 12, 2001; his brothers, Otis Henry Mathews, died April 12, 1953 and Nelson Wayne Mathews, died November 10, 2022; his sisters, Wanda Sullivan, died October 28, 1982 and Edith Mae Gibbs, died April 8, 2024; his niece, Jill Aileen Mathews, died September 30, 1971 and his grandson, Samuel Lewis Steven Fritter, died October 7, 2022.
