Mr. Charles Terry “Short” Young, age 75, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his residence in Rising Sun, Indiana. Short was born on Wednesday, September 11, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Donald Eugene and Lura Marie (Storie) Young. Short was a 1968 graduate of Rising Sun High School and spent his entire life in Rising Sun. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard from 1969-1975. On October 22, 1983, Short married Doris Coy. Short and Doris enjoyed many years of camping together with family and friends. They also traveled to all 50 states. Short worked for Kroger Company for 13 years, then six years for his Father’s company, Donald E. Young & Sons Trucking, before moving on to Nash Finch as a driver for 21 years. After retiring from Nash Finch, Short worked seasonally for the Ohio County Highway Department mowing the county roadsides, a job he claimed to be his absolute favorite. He took just as much pride in mowing the county roads as he did his own lawn. Short loved old tractors and going to antique tractor shows. He was always searching for something to buy whether for himself or someone else. He enjoyed raising a garden, taking care of his animals whether it be a goat, chickens, turkeys, sheep, horses, or cattle and maintaining his property where he kept a meticulous lawn.
Short is survived by his wife of 41 years, Doris (Coy) Young of Rising Sun, IN; two sons, Darin Simpson (Tabbi) of Dugger, IN and Denton Simpson (Kami) of Rising Sun, IN; three brothers, Larry Young (Connie) of Rising Sun, IN, Jerry “Pete” Young (Vicky) of Rising Sun, IN and James “Jim” Young (Cynthia) of Aurora, IN; five grandchildren, Blake Simpson, Brinna Simpson, and Brae Simpson all of Dugger, IN and Alyssa Simpson and Landon Simpson of Rising Sun, IN; mother-in-law, Naomi Coy; sisters-in-law, Sue (Stan) Whalen, Donna Harlow, Glenda (Jim) Brown, Joann (Don) Wipf, Benita (Bill) Kaffenberger and Melanie (Terry) McQueen; brothers-in-law, Louis Coy, Nathan Coy and Jonathan (Lisa) Coy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
