Mr. Arnold Keith Headen, affectionately known as Keith, age 65, was a beloved member of the Vevay, Indiana community. He passed away at 1:07 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2025, in the comfort of his home. Keith was born on November 4, 1959 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was raised in Midway, Kentucky and graduated in 1977 from Scott County High School in Georgetown, Kentucky. After high school, Keith attended Eastern Kentucky University, where he studied law enforcement. Keith met the love of his life, Sarah Baggett in the fall of 1977 at college and they tied the knot on June 26, 1982 in Owensboro, Kentucky. This happy union of over 42 years was blessed with two sons. Keith began his career as a Texaco Gas attendant while still in high school in Midway, Kentucky and later took on various roles, including a security guard in Lexington and a jailer for Fayette County., Keith was later employed for the Madison State Hospital in Madison, Indiana. For 36 years, he served as a school bus driver for the Switzerland County School Corporation, always ensuring the safety and well-being of his young passengers. In addition to these roles, Keith was a talented gunsmith and knife maker and owned and operated the Florence General Store for 21 years. A gentle giant, Keith was known for his kindness and generosity. He had a passion for riding and building motorcycles, fishing, and repairing and customizing firearms, holsters, knives, and sheaths. His love for leatherworking, reading, and spending time with his beloved dog, Flint, was evident to all who knew him. Keith also contributed his skills to 4H shooting sports, fostering a love for safe firearm practices among young enthusiasts. As a member of the Switzerland County Gun Club and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Keith was actively involved in his community and shared his passions with others. His legacy of kindness and commitment to his interests will be cherished by family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Keith will be deeply missed by his wife, Sarah (Baggett) Headen of Vevay, IN; his sons, Elijah James Headen of Erlanger, KY and Lucas Tanner Headen and his companion, Aren of Erlanger, KY; his mother, Gloria Dell (Harden) Headen of Lexington, KY; his sisters, Marcia Kelly Sampson and her husband, Stirling of Nicholasville, KY and Kendra Dell Murphy and her husband, Keith of Stamping Ground, KY; his mother-in-law, Nancy Anne Baggett of Owensboro, KY; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Paula and Kenneth Pardue of Scottsville, KY, Billie “Jeannie” Penrod of Owensboro, KY and Deana and Baggett and her fiancé, Shane of Owensboro, KY; his nieces and nephews, Chad, Sydney, Kaelyn, Lindsey, Clayton, Kendra, Kyle, Ginger and Jordan and his 13-great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Curtis “Whitey” Headen, died June 2, 2004 and his father-in-law, Billy Dean Baggett, died October 22, 1996.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
