Michael Roy Chapman, 77, of Greensburg, IN passed away on February 16, 2024. Mike was born September 9, 1946 in Winchester, KY to Henry Roy Chapman and Mary Clay (Webster) Chapman. He grew up in Louisville, KY and graduated from Suda E. Butler High School in 1964. He attended the University of Kentucky from 1964 to 1967 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1967. Mike served from 1967 to 1971, attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Airman’s medal. While stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tuscan, AZ, he met Christine Kiefer and they were married on December 7, 1968. After his military discharge, they moved to Louisville, KY where Mike graduated from the University of Louisville in 1974 earning a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. During his accounting career, he was employed at Hill-Rom Company, Henkel Chemical, and Patheon Pharmaceutical Company.
Mike and Chris loved theatre, especially musicals, and supported the Tree County Players on stage and behind the scenes for many years. Mike served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. They had many travel adventures throughout the states and visited Canada, Mexico and Italy. Mike and Chris volunteered their time helping local organizations, such as Kid’s Closet, Bread of Life, Tree County Players, and others. He and Chris are members of the Greensburg Presbyterian Church. Mike was a prolific reader and also enjoyed writing. He penned an autobiography about growing up in the 60’s and being extremely patriotic, shared his views with his congressman and on social media. Mike adored his wife, children and grandchildren and cherished time spent with them.
He is survived by his Wife, Christine; Son, Christopher M. (Brenda) Chapman; Daughter, Amy Chapman (Scott) Smith; five Grandchildren; Brother, Gary L. Chapman; and Sister, Deborah Lawrence Audo. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Clay Lawrence; Father, Henry Roy Chapman; and Brother Richard C. Lawrence.
Per his wishes, Mike will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Franklin St, Greensburg, IN 47240 on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg or to the Greensburg and Decatur County Animal Shelter.
