Michael Lynn Phillips, 76

Michael Lynn Phillips, age 76, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on January 12, 2026. He was born on August 14, 1949, in Greensburg, Indiana, to James Phillips and Bertha Caster Phillips. Michael was a graduate of Greensburg Community High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Armed Forces, an experience that reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he became a well-known and respected member of the local business community. For many years, Michael owned and operated Newman’s Building Supply, a lumberyard that served countless customers and stood as a testament to his hard work, reliability, and dedication. He will be remembered for his steady work ethic, his service to his country, and his lasting contributions to the Greensburg community. His life touched many, and his memory will remain with those who knew, loved, and respected him.

Michael is survived by his children, Stephanie (Jeff) Ward, Stephen (Cara) Phillips, Shelley (Ryan Nobbe) Bailey, Sarah (Travis Starnes) Phillips; grandchildren, Shelby (Jason) Kirchhoff, Jonathon Ward, Amalea Phillips, Jaxson Phillips, Ethan (Tori) Bailey, Evan Bailey, Tucker Bailey, Wryn Miller, Ridge Miller; Great Grandchildren, Aker Kirchhoff, Sage Kirchhoff, Sawyer Kirchhoff, Quinn Bailey; brothers, Gary (Phyllis) Phillips, and Albert Phillips. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Phillips; his sister, Barbara Ann Phillips; his twin children, Ronnie Jo and Wendy Jo Phillips; his granddaughter, Sydney Jane Ward; his nephew, Greg Phillips; his brother-in-law, Tom Newman, and his sister-in-law, Nancy Phillips.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 11:00 am. Pastor Ray Sweet will be officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
