Michael Alexander Dix, 74, passed away on November 02, 2025 at Franciscan Health. He was born on January 09, 1951 in Bartholomew County Hospital to Gerald L. & Georgia M. (Coffey) Dix. As a young teen, Mike was employed as a lifeguard at CERAland. Simultaneously, he learned woodworking and fine cabinetry skills while working with his Dad. He was a proficient machine repair and millwright journeyman at Cummins, Inc. and at Navistar. Mike grew up and lived in Columbus until his retirement from Cummins in 1999. He then moved to Greenwood to work at Navistar. After his second retirement from Navistar, he began remodeling his current residence in Columbus including an addition to his detached garage and workshop. He was a willing helper for repairs and projects for family and friends. His skills, friendships, and companionship will long be remembered and missed. He was a proud member of the NRA. Mike was a jack of all trades who enjoyed making motorcycle modifications, riding his Harley, attending car shows, and car repairs and body work. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Survivors include his life partner, Melanie Lane of Columbus; his son, Paul Michael (Kae) Dix of Avon; his sisters, Jacqueline (Russell) Thackery of Dade City, Florida and Patricia Wessel of Columbus. Two grandchildren, Anthony “Andy” (Savannah) Dix of Mesa, Arizona and Haruki Michael Dix of Avon, one great grandchild; Oliver Michael Dix also of Arizona and an aunt, Erma Jean Thompson. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sue Ann Dix, a granddaughter, Alexandria Dix and brother, Billy Dix. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday November 8, 2025, with a service at 3:00 pm at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport.
