Batesville, IN—Two new, interactive murals have been created by a world-renowned street artist in downtown Batesville.
The murals were created to represent the community. The first mural at Miss Shannon’s Music Studio is a tree swing which was selected after a public survey conducted by Mayor’s Youth Council. The second mural depicts monarch butterflies on the Hill-Rom Training Center.
“These murals bring a pop of color to downtown and will hopefully attract more people to Batesville and they can see the other great attractions the city has to offer,” said student Brayleigh Patterson.
Montague created the murals as part of her #WhatLiftsYou movement that combines the power of art with social media to create an uplifting experience online. You are encouraged to share your mural photos on social media with her hashtag, as well as #artINbatesville and #ourrootsstarthere.
Montague, of Colorado, gained worldwide notoriety when Taylor Swift posed in front of Kelsey’s mural in New York City in 2014. She has painted nearly 300 murals around the world, including London, Hong Kong, and Dubai. Montague’s signature works can also be found in cities across the United States including a butterfly mural in Nashville that was commissioned by Swift this past April.
“We’re really excited to be in beautiful Batesville to be doing this butterfly piece for the city,” said Kelsey’s sister and business partner Courtney Montague. “We hope people like it, interact with it and post on social media and we’re grateful to be part of this really awesome town!”
“The Ripley County Community Foundation is proud to support Batesville Main Street in its efforts to keep the community vibrant. The mural is a great addition to Batesville and revitalizes a busy intersection further beautifying the downtown area. This piece brings social opportunities for all and will welcome additional creativity in the future,” states Amy Streator, RCCF Executive Director.
