Mary Wood Hughes, 77 of Greensburg, passed away at 8:57 p.m. on Saturday January 10,2026 at the Decatur Co. Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 27, 1948, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Carl Edward Sr. and Edna Elaine (Nelson) Wood. She was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1981 she moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she stayed until 2011, when she moved to Greensburg, Indiana. She graduated high school and went on to vocational school to get her LPN license. She spent the majority of her career working at Hazelwood Residential Facility. Mary was a member of Pilgrim Nazarene Church in Greensburg. She enjoyed sewing and taking care of her dog Precious. She also enjoyed dressing Precious up in fun little outfits. She married Teddy R. Hughes on November 15, 1991, in Louisville, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on March 07, 2008. Survivors include her children, Edna Fowler (Jim Cooper) of Tallulah, Louisiana, Calvin James Venable, Jr. (Rhonda) of Greensburg, Jeffrey Venable (Kelly) of Connersville; her siblings, Nancy Knapp of Alexandria, Louisiana and Donald Wood (Ella) of Lake Charles, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Jennifer Bodeker of California, Calvin Venable, III of Greensburg, Cathryn Venable of Greensburg, Rachel Ledbetter of Kentucky, Eileen Broderick of Oklahoma, Zachary Broderick of Oklahoma, Karen Venable of Arkansas and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant twin brothers, Carl and Carlton, and a brother Carl Edward Wood, Jr. Services to honor Mary’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday January 15, 2026, at the Pilgrim Nazarene Church in Greensburg. Reverend Don Bates, Jr. will be officiating. A burial will take place at the Central Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday January 15 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 5:00 p.m. at the church.
