Mary (McIntosh) Smith Lay, 96, of Connersville passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at Majestic Care of Connersville. Mary was born Saturday, October 23, 1926 in Owsley, Kentucky; daughter of Elmer and Vanie (Fields) McIntosh. Mary worked at Melbin Products. She enjoyed dressing up, playing guitar, and singing. Mary also enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and taking her evening walks.
Mary will be missed by her son Troy (Claudette) Smith of Brookville; daughters Bonnie (Frank) Bergmann of Lawrenceburg and Roezella (Wilbur) Allen of Connersville; brother Andrew McIntosh of Lawrenceburg; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Vanie McInstosh; husband Calloway Smith; daughters Lovella Johnson and Beulla Smith; son Roger Smith; sisters Thelma Burns, Ruth Baker, and Mayme Baker; and brothers Henry McIntosh and Letcher McIntosh.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Mary from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Vern Wheeler officiating. Burial will take place at Hogan Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Mary to the YES Home.
