Mary Magdalene (Deel) Baker, 87, of Dillsboro passed away Wednesday, Noveber 26, 2025, at The Waters of Dillsboro. Mary was born on Friday, November 18, 1938, in Buchanan, Virginia; daughter of Jonah and Lucy (Fuller) Deel. Mary married Marion Ray Baker on March 14, 1958, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1997. Mary worked as a CNA for many years and also worked in the cafeteria for ARA Services where she later retired from. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Hartwell, Ohio. She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers.
Mary will be missed by her son Aaron Baker of Dayton, Ohio; daughters Patricia (Brian) Conway of Dillsboro and Kim (Steve) Bastin of Cincinnati; brothers Bruce Deel and Carl Deel of Virginia; sisters Bonnie Hubbard and Joan (Larry) Hubbard of Virginia; 8 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Jonah and Lucy Deel; husband Marion Baker; son Brian Baker; sister Cathy Hubbard; and brother James Deel.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Mary from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Services will follow at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given in honor of Mary to Leukemia Research Foundation or American Cancer Society.
