Mary Kathryn “Mary Kay” Washburn, age 86 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at her home. Born February 3, 1939, in Milan, Indiana, she is the daughter of Arthur and Elnora (Nee: Williamson) Gardner. She married Omer Washburn on April 19, 1980, in Batesville and he preceded her in death on November 4, 2023.
Mary was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and its Ladies Society and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie #1130. She was a State Officer for the Owl Club of the Pocahontas Lodge Starlite 448, where she had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed crocheting and making angel gifts for family and friends.
She is survived by her son John (Rachel) Allen of Metamora, Indiana; stepdaughter Sheila (Chuck) Deikhoff of Millhousen, Indiana; son-in-law Jack Hartmann and daughter-in-law Shelia Washburn, both of Indiana; sisters Helen (Harold) Ellinghausen of Batesville and Sue Teasley of Greensburg, Indiana; brother Anthony (Marla) Gardner of Dothan, Alabama; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Omer, she was preceded in death by her daughter Cathy Hartmann, stepson Dana Washburn, and brother Richard Gardner.
Visitation is Monday, January 12th, from 10:00 am – 12:40 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 pm, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Stan Pondo officiating. The burial will be at Cravens (Old) Cemetery in Milan, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
