Margaret Anne (Bowling) Schmidt, 87, of Greensburg, passed away on February 18, 2025. Anne was born on November 28, 1937, in Oliver Springs, Tennessee to Howard L. Bowling and Rubye L. Gilliam Bowling.
Anne graduated from Napoleon High School and then followed her passion of studying education at Sue Bennett College in Kentucky for one year. Next, she took a job at the Napoleon Lumber Company where she met and married William H. Schmidt, Jr., on April 29, 1957. Her education was put on hold while she had her children: Dr. Mary L. (Charles) Giesting, Frank L. Schmidt, Peggy L. (Thomas) Eineman, Karen L (Greg) Busch and Steve L. (Katy) Schmidt.
Following up her passion of studying education and becoming an elementary teacher, she continued her college classes and received a BS in Education from St. Mary’s of the Wood in Terre Haute and a Master’s in Education from Indiana University. Anne taught 8 years at St. Mary’s in Greensburg, 19 years at Batesville Community Schools and subbed at Greensburg Community Schools, ending her career with a total of 45 years of teaching. Two daughters and three grandchildren followed her into the field of education.
Anne was a ‘charter’ member of the Napoleon VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Eagles, American Legion Auxiliary, and both the Ripley County and Indiana Retired Teachers Associations.
She loved all types of music, dancing, attending and watching sports, crocheting, stamp collecting, scrapbooking, and playing games on her computer.
Family was the most precious thing in her life. She loved watching her grandchildren at sporting events, musicals/plays, babysitting, teaching them to sew/crochet/knit and simply sharing time with them. Her 15 grandchildren are: Sam, Ben, Allison and Elizabeth Giesting; Megan and Luke Schmidt; Chris, Michael, Jenny and Jon Eineman; Andy, Michelle (Brown), and Katlyn (East) Busch; and Erica (DeKruyter) and Jessica Schmidt.
She is survived by her brother, Kenny Bowling, her 5 children, her 15 grandchildren and her 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jean Connely, and brothers Terry and Jimmy Bowling.
Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 8:45 am at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 8874 N. Harrison Street, Napoleon, IN 47034, with visitation following from 9:00 to 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, following the visitation, at the church. Burial will follow at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Napoleon.
