Man wanted for Attempted Murder of officer at-large

Lawrenceburg, IN — Early last week, Officers with the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit began investigating Daniel Widener, age 45, of Lawrenceburg, and his potential involvement in allegations of a large amount of methamphetamine being trafficked in the Dearborn-Ohio County area. On Monday a warrant was issued for the arrest of Widener based on a probation violation.

Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on Widener’s vehicle, but Widener refused to stop and sped away. Deputy Garrett Rollins with the Dearborn County Sheriff’s office attempted to intercept Widener by stopping his vehicle and pulling his duty weapon on the oncoming car. Widener ducked down in his car and at speeds exceeding an estimated 80 miles per hour sped towards Deputy Rollins. Deputy Rollins was forced to jump out of the way of the car and he and his vehicle were barely missed by Widener’s car.

Widener continued to flee at high rates of speed through the city of Lawrenceburg and through the School zone located around Central Elementary School before he traveled into Kentucky. Widened has been charged on allegations of Attempted Murder, Attempted Resisting Law Enforcement, Attempted Aggravated Battery, and Attempted Criminal Recklessness from the attempt to run over Deputy Rollins.

Widener is still at-large and is considered dangerous by law enforcement. If you or someone you know has information that would aid law enforcement in the capture of Widener please contact the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office at 812-537-8700.
