Lydia Louise Amm, 84, of Dillsboro passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Gadsden, Alabama. Lydia was born Sunday, June 28, 1936 in Milan, Indiana, the daughter of the late Matthew and Norma (Gettle) Weeks. She married Leroy Amm on November 7, 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1990. Lydia retired from the State of Indiana as a claim’s taker. She was a past member of the Milan American Legion Auxiliary; the Aurora VFW; and a Home EC. club. She enjoyed sewing, especially making outfits for the grandchildren, and making Raggedy Andy and Ann dolls. She also enjoyed Bluegrass music and her dog “Sweet Pea”.
Lydia is survived by her sons William of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Larry (Mary Ann) of Alabama, and Ronald (Rhonda) of Dillsboro; half-brother Robert (Anita) Holliday of Florida; stepsister Marie Johnson of Florida; four grandchildren: Erica, Alison, Aaron, and Ronald Amm; and three great-grandchildren: Alyeia Posey, Kayla Lasseter, and Alex Lasseter. She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Norma, stepbrother John Holliday, and stepsister Pauline Birdsall.
A service celebrating her life will be held 1 PM Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Deb Beason officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember her 11 AM – 1 PM Tuesday also at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in honor of Lydia to the Dillsboro Fire Department or the Dillsboro Life Squad.
