(New Point, IN) – A local community is mourning the passing of a long-time public servant.

Scott Litmer served with the New Point Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years.

He was known for helping organize the department’s fundraisers and write grant applications, among many of the behind-the-scenes acts he took part in.

The department’s Facebook page contained the following statement:

“Scott was more than a firefighter, he was a husband, big brother to his younger brother Chris, friend, and a brother to all of us within the fire service.

“At this time, we ask that you please keep his wife, brother, and his fellow brothers and sisters in the fire service in your prayers and thoughts.

“Rest in peace Scotty, we’ll take it from here!!!”

Litmer’s firefighting helmet and turnout gear are on memorial display in front of the New Point fire station (pictured).

Funeral arrangements for Scott Litmer were pending as of Wednesday morning.
