Greensburg, in. — Our news gathering partners at the Greensburg Daily News are reporting North Decatur High School will lose 92-years of teaching expertise when tow popular educators retire this year. Shirley Stotts has been a dedicated English teacher for 49 years and Fred Chase has been an outstanding math teacher for 43 years.
A reception will be held at the school on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Stotts said her mother encouraged her to go to college and become an English teacher. Her parents both worked in the General Motors factory. Stotts said she was always good with English and since it was what she was best at, she was happy to share that talent and passion with students.
Chase is originally from southwestern Indiana and sent applications to every school in the 812 area code when he looked for his first job, thinking he would stay close to home. NDHS offered him the job first and he accepted before he graduated college. Just weeks later, he received offers from two more schools, but he turned them down to honor his contract with North Decatur.
