The Wildcats pressured and defended hard against the relentless offense. Rookie Varsity Goal Keeper racked up 21 saves in her first 80 minutes of the varsity season. The Wildcats defensive line was anchored by Junior Claudia Mauntel and Senior Laura Edwards.
Any offensive opportunities were a result of good combination play out of the mid-field. Sophomore Kamryn Dozier, Juniors Halee Barker, Kylee Gibson and Jordan Nichols had good possession.
Seniors Ashley Mauntel, Kloe Bolos and Grace Kruthaupt played strong up top but couldn’t capitalize.

These ladies made some amazing plays and worked hard. For many, this was their first time taking a volleyball court so nerves played a huge role. Things are clicking and I look for a lot of growth with this group throughout our season. Nice job and way to never give up.

Overall it was an outstanding team win. They started a bit slow in the first set but once they were able to turn it on they never looked back. I was incredibly proud to see how much they have grown over the last couple of years their understanding of the game itself is becoming very evident. This is a group of young women who have an intense drive to get better every single game.

The EC Lady Trojans Volleyball team lost a tough non-conference battle to Greensburg with the scores of 25-15, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16 on Monday Night.
‘After losing a lot of core players last year, I wasn’t sure what to expect in this match. We didn’t get a chance to scrimmage all summer, so we used a different line-up in every set as we are still trying to get a feel for what works. Greensburg returned the majority of their varsity team, so we know going in that it was going to be a hard-fought battle if we wanted to get a win. While the scores don’t always show it, we played extremely hard and I’m pleasantly surprised with the level of play we performed at. The girls are still trying to get used to playing next to each other. We now have a baseline and can continue to build from there. I am proud of the girls for pushing themselves and never quitting. I look forward to the match-up again in October. ‘ Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.’
Varsity is now 0-1 on the season (0-0 EIAC). Next up: South Dearborn at home on Thursday. Varsity and freshman will start at 5, JV will follow varsity.
