Lettie Lucielle Hicks, age 80

Lettie Lucielle Hicks, age 80 of Osgood, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 with her family by her side.  Lettie was born in Osgood on March 24, 1944, the daughter of the late Henry and Jessie (Henderson) Wheeler. Lettie was all Osgood, growing up here along with her brother and sisters. She graduated Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1962.  She began studying nursing at Jewish Hospital. She worked as a nurse in Cincinnati at both Jewish and Christ hospitals for the next 20 years. She then returned to Osgood, and furthered her education at Indiana Wesleyan, receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. While living in Osgood, she worked for Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for another 20 years before retiring.

She was a lady of faith and attended Delaware Methodist Church as well as Cedar Creek Church, where she was pianist for many years. She always had a love for music and singing and playing music in her church brought her great joy. Lettie loved working in her flower gardens.  She also loved her community and her neighbors and was always a familiar face.  She supported the local legion and was active in the Daughters’ of American Legion.

Lettie will be dearly missed by daughter Amy (Andrew) Rogier of Oldenburg, grandsons Emmitt, Wesley, and Tucker, who were the center of her universe, several niece and nephews, and dear friends. Her generous and loving heart were obvious to all her knew her. She will always be remembered as the life of the party. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roland White, and sisters; Ethel Peters, Shirley Kemker, Margaret Carpenter, and Jennie Schmeltz.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 3, 2024 from 4-7 pm. At Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2024 at 11 am., also at Neal’s Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Greendale Cemetery.  Memorials can be given to Greendale Cemetery or the Osgood American Legion, in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be placed at nealsfuneralhome.net
