Leroy Frank Seevers passed away June 28th, 2017 in New Alsace, Indiana in his longtime home across the street from his birthplace. Born on October 20, 1921, Leroy was a lifetime resident of Dearborn County.
During World War II he served as a sailor aboard a small subchaser in the Mediterranean Sea. Leroy was a successful local businessman and entrepreneur for over fifty years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 239, VFW, DAV, a fifty-four year member of the Lawrenceburg Masonic Lodge #4, and a founding member of the Patrol Craft Sailors Association. Upon his death, Leroy was the oldest continual member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Leroy travelled the world, touching nearly every continent during his lifetime. His favorite pastime was to retell stories from his adventures on the farm, in the war, and during travel abroad. At home Leroy enjoyed helping his grandchildren and great-grandchildren explore through rides on his Gator, but perhaps his greatest love was to spend time with his family.
His father Otto, mother Minnie, and sister Elizabeth preceded Leroy in death. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, June, and his children Pam (Don) VanDyke, Dan (Kelly) Seevers, and Tim (Cathy) Seevers. Leroy is also survived by his five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Leroy’s visitation will be at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home in Dover, Indiana on Saturday, July 1st at 10:00am with a funeral beginning at 1:00pm. Internment will be at Saint John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Sunman, Indiana immediately following the funeral. Donations can be made in Leroy’s name to St. John Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
