Leon J. Meyer, 87 of Greensburg passed away on June 3, 2022, with his loved ones by his side. Born September 23, 1934 on his family farm to Frank and Amelia (Waechter), he was the youngest of 6 children. Leon started work at Hillenbrands in 1950 before joining the US Navy reserves in 1952. He then served in the US Army from 1954-1956 where he spent his time in Texas and Germany. Leon married Darlene (Freeland) Meyer on January 26, 1957, moved to Greensburg, and together they raised 3 wonderful children, Greg, Christy and Suzie. He worked for many years at BCA before retiring. Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed listening to music, reading books, fishing, gardening, and camping. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Leon is survived by his daughters Christy (Mike) Bokelman of Greensburg, and Suzanne (Paul) Ritter of Indianapolis; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Stiemann, Ashley (Josh) Snapp, David Bokelman, Abby (Alex) Crowe, and Lily Ritter; Great-grandchildren Taylah (Thomas) Weber, Cathan Stiemann, Rowan Stiemann, Ryan Rutherford, Carter Rutherford and Ellie Snapp. He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene, son Greg, parents, and siblings, Edith (Norbert) Albers, Clifford (Suzanne) Meyer, Adrian (Patricia) Meyer, Gilbert (Bernadette) Meyer, and Donald Meyer. A rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, June 10th at 10am followed by visitation until the funeral mass at 12pm with Father John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Hospice of Indiana.
