Leising: Honoring the FFA

Indianapolis, In. — Recently, I honored the FFA with House Concurrent Resolution 10 at the Statehouse during National FFA Week.

HCR 10 recognizes the FFA for its work both locally and nationally to advance the quality of agricultural education. The FFA national organization, which encompasses all 50 states and two U.S. territories and has more than 650,000 members, was established in 1928, and the Indiana FFA, which has more than 12,000 members, was established in 1929.

This organization is so important for the youth of our state and country. Not only does it help prepare our future farmers for the workforce, but it builds character, teaches teamwork and leadership skills, and encourages community involvement, among other things. I am proud of our FFA students, and I look forward to seeing the great things they will do for our communities, state and nation.

In addition to being honored with HCR 10, FFA students attended Indiana’s FFA Page Day at the Statehouse, which gives members the opportunity to learn about Indiana’s government, interact with lawmakers and tour the Statehouse. FFA Page Day is held during National FFA Week each year. This year, National FFA Week runs from Feb. 16-23.

All state senators were added to the resolution. For more information on HCR 10, click here.
