BCSC, Sunman-Dearborn announce plans to leave ROD

Batesville, In. — Officials from the Batesville Community School Corporation have announced plans to pull out of the Ripley-Ohio-Dearborn Special Education Cooperative. Sunman-Dearborn Schools made the same announcement earlier this month.

By March 1 BCSC officials are expected to formally notify the ROD about the separation that will be effective at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

Director of the ROD, Dr. Alex Brewer has assured parents of special needs students that services will continue uninterrupted.

Batesville Community School Corporation superintendent Paul Ketcham cited a need to reform the funding formula in order to increase value and maintain services. Similar reasons were cited by Sunman-Dearborn Schools superintendent Andrew Jackson.

Ketcham and Jackson have also resigned from leadership positions on the ROD board.

The Ripley-Ohio-Dearborn Special Education Cooperative serves special needs students in Jac-Cen-Del, Lawrenceburg, Milan, Rising Sun-Ohio County, South Dearborn and South Ripley school districts.
