(Statehouse) – A bill authored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) to protect historic sites in Metamora and the rest of Indiana passed out of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources this week and was recommitted to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for further consideration.
Leising says Senate Bill 515 would protect historic sites in Indiana by placing their care under the authority of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Currently, the Indiana State Museum is responsible for their care.
“Indiana’s historic sites, including the Metamora Canal in Franklin County, are important parts of our state’s heritage and in need of critical support and rehabilitation,” Leising said. “I am confident they will receive more resources and attention under the DNR than under current management.”
Leising encourages residents of Senate District 42 to contact her with any questions or comments they may have.
