Leising bill providing easy-to-read school testing results heads to governor’s desk

State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg)

Statehouse — A bill authored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that would require a summary of a student’s statewide testing results to be included on their statewide assessment report passed the House of Representatives Tuesday.

Senate Enrolled Act 168 would require the Indiana Department of Education to ensure their statewide assessment vendors provide easy-to-read summaries of a student’s results on their statewide assessment report, which would assist teachers and families in understanding what subjects their students may be struggling in.

“There are concerned parents who receive their child’s state-administered test results and feel they do not completely understand what subject areas their child needs additional help in,” Leising said. “By making K-12 statewide assessment results easier to read, instructors and families can make better-informed decisions regarding their child’s education.”

The bill now moves to the governor’s desk for consideration.
