(Laurel, IN) – A Laurel man is facing charges in connection with the theft of construction equipment from Wayne County.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies say they were contacted last Thursday by Wayne County investigators about a mini excavator that was stolen earlier this month.

The investigation led to a Franklin County deputy and Wayne County authorities going to the home of 48-year-old Charles Hunter on the 100 block of Commerce Drive in Laurel, where they spotted the stolen equipment sitting on a trailer.

Hunter was seen at the residence and arrested after a brief scuffle, which included him allegedly throwing items from his pockets at deputies.

He was also allegedly in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.

The excavator was seized, and Hunter was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor related to possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest.

Additional charges are expected against him in Wayne County.
