Kamryn McCool threw a shutout and the whole lineup was hitting as Franklin County got out to an early lead on Lawrenceburg and never looked back in an 11-0 victory on Monday. The Wildcats continued to play all-round great softball in a total team effort in the win. The victory extends Franklin County’s winning streak to nine games as their record in now 16-3 on the year (8-2 in EIAC). Lawrenceburg’s record falls to 3-11 overall (1-8 in EIAC).
Franklin County Wildcats Varsity got on the board in the first inning when Gabby Mitchum led off with a hit by pitch. She then scored when Kamryn McCool tripled on a 0-2 count. McCool scored on an RBI ground out by Hannah Hornsby for the second out, but the Wildcats would continue to score with two outs. Next, Camryn Brewer had a single to left field, and Kloe Bolos followed that up with a RBI double to left scoring Brewer. After advancing to third on a fielding error, Bolos scored on a Kendall McCool single up the middle and just like that the Wildcats were up 4-0 before the Tigers even came up to bat.
The Wildcats other big inning came in the third inning when they scored five runs. With one out, Tessa Harper reached on a fielding error and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Orschell. The Wildcats were then able to capitalize with two outs and string some hits together to score their five runs. With Harper on second, Gabby Mitchum pulled a line drive into left field to score Harper from second. After Mitchum advanced to second on the throw, Maggie Wendel poked a hard grounder through the hole between shortstop and third for a single, scoring Mitchum. Kamryn McCool then drew a walk which was followed by a 2 RBI double by Hannah Hornsby. Camryn Brewer then ripped a single into left field that was misplayed by the fielder, allowing Hornsby to score from second.
Kamryn McCool was the winning pitcher for Franklin County. She surrendered no runs on one hit over five innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Her record on the season is now 9-1.
The lone hit for the Tigers was a single to left field by Bailee Johnson.
Sam Heiert took the loss for Lawrenceburg. She allowed 12 hits and 11 runs over five innings of work.
Franklin County scattered 12 hits in the game with Brewer and Mitchum each having multiple hits for the Wildcats. Brewer went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.
The Wildcats were also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Franklin County will be back in action Tuesday evening as the Wildcats take on EIAC foe Rushville at home. First pitch against the Lions is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
