Lady Wildcats Defeat Lady Eagles

The Franklin County Wildcats were able to win their third straight game Saturday morning behind the dazzling performance of Camryn Brewer in the circle. Camryn was able to keep the Eagle hitters off-balance almost all day, and the few times the Eagles did hit the ball hard, the Wildcat defense was there to back her up. Brewer pitched the complete game on only 65 pitches and was very efficient throughout the game, hitting the strike zone early and often. Her efficiency was evident from the way she started the game in the top of the first inning.

In her first inning of work, Brewer was able to retire the side on three pitches. The lead off hitter grounded out to Makaylee Woods at second, the second hitter flew out to Abby Orschell in center field, while the third hitter popped up to Sarah Bare at third baseman. This was a good showing of what was going to come the rest of the game for the Wildcat pitcher.

The Wildcats offense got their first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Kloe Bolos led off the inning with a double down the left field line which was then followed up by Michaela Ferman’s double to center to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Karlie Hahn would then add a third hit later in the inning of a single into center field to put runners on the corners with one out. Emily Wendel would draw a walk to load the bases for Sarah Bare. Bare would connect on a long fly ball to left-center field which would be deep enough to score Ferman at third to make the score 2-0. Abby Orschell would then have a two out single to score Hahn from third to make the score 3-0.

Franklin County would scratch another run across in the third inning. Camryn Brewer helped herself out by leading off the inning with a double into left field. She would then advance to third on a ground out by Kloe Bolos, and finally score on a sacrifice fly by Kay Kay Ferman to make the score 4-0.

The Wildcats final run was scored in the bottom of the fifth when they had a nice two out rally to add another insurance run onto their total. With two outs, Morgan Bare would loft a single into shallow right field to give the Wildcats a base runner. Karlie Hahn would then follow that up with a double off of the center field fence to score Bare to give the Wildcats their final run of the game and make the score 5-0.

With her no-hitter, Camryn Brewer was able to pick up her second win of the season and bring her record to 2-0. In the game she pitched all seven innings, giving up no runs on no hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. The only baserunners of the game for the Eagles reached on two errors in the game, as well as a dropped third strike. Camryn Brewer’s no-hitter is the 22nd in Franklin County High School history, and the first for the pitcher’s career.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by Karlie Hahn who had three hits on the day, including two singles and a double, one RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base. Kloe Bolos, Camryn Brewer, and Kay Kay Ferman also added doubles for the Wildcats. Ferman was the RBI leader for the Wildcats on the day with two.

With the win, Franklin County’s record improves to 4-1 on the year. The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday evening when they open EIAC play, by hosting Lawrenceburg. Game is scheduled for a 5:30 pm start.
