The Lady Wildcats soccer team fell to a very good East Central squad 10-0. The team battled in 100 index on artificial turf. The organized ball movement by the Trojans wore down the Wildcats.
Also contributing to a lop-sided game were long standing injuries of key players such as Sophomore Kylee Gibson and Freshmen Maegan Pearson that kept them from being in the lineup. Senior Grace Noble played her first game back after a severe ankle sprain in Sydney OH in the preseason. The injury kept her on the sidelines the second half of the game but she was an impressive threat in the minutes that she played.
Defenders Sophomore Claudia Mauntel, Junior Laura Edwards and Senior Adrienne Bundy were fantastic in the back line. The Wildcats were successful in shutting down the outside runs with good defending by Sophomore Jordan Nichols and Freshmen Taylee Conrad but the Lady Wildcats failed to cover ground quick enough in the center of the field.
Offensively Senior Jaime Stortz had the best attempt to score with a well struck shot on a free quick but was saved the the EC keeper. Senior Brylee Pace had an excellent work rate in the midfield and as a forward causing the the EC squad to have to reset play back to the defensive line multiple times. Freshman Kamryn Dozier had a lot of success with physical dominance and speed to cover a lot of ground and forcing turnovers by the EC midfield and defensive line.
Newcomer and first time soccer player Senior Karlie Hahn gained invaluable experience between the pipes and had 17 saves on the night. Karlie stole the show with amazement by the fans, the officials the and opponents coaching staff to learn this was her first official soccer game.
The Lady Wildcats use the loss to fuel their success this season. They take on Rising Sun on Thursday.
