While they still have two conference games left to play, the Lady Trojans of East Central cleared the most challenging remaining hurdle on their EIAC schedule Tuesday, defeating Lawrenceburg 45-25.
As heard on the Sports Voice, EC led 8-6 after the first quarter and 23-13 at the half. Trojan all-time leading scorer Josie Trable had 10 points at the break, eight of which came after rolling an ankle in the first quarter.
The St. Leon ladies dominated the third quarter 21-3 and, despite hitting scoring only on a single free throw in the fourth, easily won by 20.
Trabel finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Teammates Hope Fox had11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Laney Baker logged 10 and three steals.
For the Tigers, Kirsten Cross put in a dozen points with eight rebounds and Lizzie Redar scored eight points and had four boards.
East Central made the most of the 16 turnovers committed throughout the night by the Tigers and also held Lawrenceburg to just 1-of-12 shooting during the decisive third quarter.
EC is now 5-0 and can clinch a tie for the title with a win over Franklin County Thursday. Lawrenceburg drops to 3-2 is all but mathematically eliminated from contention.
East Central won the JV game 33-26.
Emily Klem canned 18 points in the win for the Trojan reserves. Hillary Knippenberg bucketed 14 for the Tiger JV.
