Lady Bulldogs And Lady Tigers Battle It Out In Softball

Batesville and  Lawrenceburg traded the lead back-and-forth on Tuesday, but eventually, the Bulldogs prevailed 15-13. 
 
The game was tied at 12 with the Bulldogs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Kaylin Hinners doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. Then came Sarah Rippergers 1st career Home Run to score the final 2 runs of the game.
Batesville took an early lead in the first inning with a Kylie Laker Home Run, a single by Sydnee Scheafer and Emma Belter, and then a double by Paige Oldham scored 3 runs in the inning,
Batesville Bulldogs Varsity put up five runs in the fifth inning. Hinners, Laker, Scheafer, Belter, and Oldham each had RBIs in the frame.
Lawrenceburg scored six runs in the third inning.
 
Katie Mobley led things off on the rubber for the Bulldogs. The hurler went seven innings, allowing 17 hits, striking out two, and walking one, and earned her first win on the Varsity mound.
Batesville Bulldogs Varsity hit four home runs on the day. Belter had a dinger in the fifth inning. Oldham went deep in the fifth inning. Laker went yard in the first inning. Sarah Ripperger put one out in the sixth inning.
Batesville Bulldogs Varsity racked up 17 hits on the day. Laker cycled with a single, double, triple, and a Home Run and knocked in 3 runs. Oldham (single, double and Home Run), Belter (2 singles and a Home Run) each had three hits and combined for 4 RBIs. Ripperger finished the game with a single and a Home Run, Scheafer ended with 2 singles, and Hinners batted for 2 doubles with 2 RBIs.
 
Batesville was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Margaret Wilson made the most plays with eight putouts. Laker ended the game with 3 putouts and 4 assists.
 
The Bulldogs move to 6-3 on the season and 2-3 in the EIAC with the win.

Cold weather shortened the JV softball game Tuesday night as Batesville drew to a 3-3 tie with the visiting Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers.
 
Kennedy Westrick drew a walk in the second inning and came around to score on a fielder’s choice later in the inning.  Samantha Kessens had the lone hit for the JV Bulldogs as she crushed a triple in the bottom of the third to score Athena Mitchell.  Kessens also advanced home on the throw to tie the ballgame.
 
Westrick had her first career start on the mound as she went all three innings allowing just 1 hit while striking out 7.
 
The JV Lady Bulldogs will next be in action Friday evening as they travel to South Dearborn.  The first pitch will be immediately following the varsity game.
