(Batesville, IN) – Paul Ketcham attended his final Batesville Community School Board meeting this week as the corporation’s superintendent.

He’s departing after nine years to begin his new duties as the State of Indiana’s Assistant Secretary of Education, effective January 5.

“I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank this community. I don’t have the opportunity to serve at the state level without the opportunities I’ve been afforded here in Batesville,” Ketcham said.  Whether that’s being a Ford NGL Bulldog Ready school, serving on committees with the Governor’s Workforce Council. The city of Batesville wrapped its arms around me because they value education.”

Ketcham says the community also values students having opportunities.

“From BCEF (Batesville Community Education Foundation), BAAC (Batesville Area Arts Council), to the Kiwanis – all of those interactions have prepared me for my next endeavor,” he said.

Ketcham says he’ll be forever indebted to the Batesville community.

“It’s very bittersweet for me right now, but I know the board is going through a process. They’re going to find a really good superintendent.  Batesville just refuses to be mismanaged, and the next superintendent will knock it out of the park,” Ketcham said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a Bulldog.

Paul Ketcham was the guest on Thursday’s edition of The Daily Pod. You can listen to the entire interview on demand on the Pod Page of wrbiradio.com.

Meanwhile, the Batesville School Board has completed the first round of interviews, and identified the top two superintendent candidates.

Due to the upcoming holidays, final interviews will take place after the first of the year.

The school board says it’s currently negotiating with an interim superintendent, who will be announced soon.

“We are still pursuing a tight timeline to get the new superintendent in place as quickly as possible,” the board wrote in a statement.
