Karen Louise Rothan, 67, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
She was born on September 5, 1957, at Hillside Community Hospital in Ukiah, California, the daughter of the late Joseph E. Nostheide and Rita (Bates) Nostheide. Karen was baptized at St. Mary of Angels Church and moved to the Cheviot neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1960. In August 1984, she relocated to Indiana-a place she quickly came to love and call home. After spending three years in Lawrenceburg, she settled in Aurora in 1987, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Karen had a deep appreciation for beauty and creativity. She loved tending to her flower gardens, found joy in writing poetry, creating art, and crocheting, and was an avid music fan-Rod Stewart being one of her favorites. She also enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals and had a strong and enduring faith in Jesus.
She is survived by her sons, John R. Rothan II, Benjamin A. (Lora) Rothan, and Ryan M. Rothan; her brother, Bill (Liz) Nostheide; nephews Liam and Will Nostheide; niece Lexi Barnett; aunt Helen Nostheide; grandchildren Robin and Jay; and her dear friend, Bobbie Jan Montgomery.
Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 18 years, James R. Rothan; her parents, Joseph and Rita Nostheide; her stepmother, Marilyn Nostheide; brothers Joe and Bernie Nostheide; and her infant daughter, Raeshelle Rothan; sister-in-law, Tiffany Weedman-Nostheide.
