K. “Sue” Carey, 77, Greensburg

K. “Sue” Carey, age 77, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. She was born on August 30, 1947, in Rushville, Indiana, the daughter of Bill and Kathryn (Tilley) Power.

Sue married the love of her life, Jerry L. Carey, on November 29, 1969. Together, they built a life filled with love and community. Sue was a dedicated educator who touched the lives of countless students during her 24 years of teaching and service in education. She graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1965, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Ball State University, and went on to complete her Master’s degree in Education at Butler University in 1972.

Sue began her teaching career in the Indianapolis area, but it was at North Decatur Elementary where she truly found her home. She taught and served as Assistant Principal there until her retirement in 2008. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to her students’ success made a lasting impact on the community.

In addition to her career, Sue was an active member of the Tri Kappa Sorority in Greensburg and a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. She had a love for the arts, particularly pottery, and was a semi-professional potter who also enjoyed teaching others the craft. Her other passions included gardening, flowers, and landscaping, which she took great joy in cultivating both at home and in the community.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; sisters, Debbie (Jeff) Walker and Diana Power; niece, Angie (Kent) Koon; great-nephew, Tyler (Mary) Koon; and great-niece, Katy (JT) Ayres. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Kathryn Power.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home, with burial to take place at South Park Cemetery.
