Juvenile arrested after high speed chase from Greensburg to Rush County

Greensburg, IN — A juvenile is behind bars following a police chase that started in Greensburg late Wednesday morning and ended in southern Rush County.

Greensburg Police say an officer responded to a report of a disorderly juvenile on the 400 block of Freeland Road.

The juvenile allegedly tried to batter his father while in a vehicle.

When Lt. Wayne Davis arrived, he saw the man outside a vehicle talking on a phone.

Just as Davis pulled up to speak to the man, police say the juvenile drove off in his father’s car.

Lt. Davis activated the emergency lights and siren in his marked police vehicle to initiate a traffic stop.

Police say the juvenile went north on State Road 3 at a high rate of speed, and the pursuit began.

Investigators say during the chase, the youth drove at a high rate of speed and almost struck several vehicles.

The juvenile eventually drove off the road and into a field, which caused mechanical problems.

He was arrested near County Road 1100 South and Base Road in Rush County.

The youth was charged with Robbery (Level 5 felony), Theft of an Automobile, Criminal Recklessness, Resisting Law Enforcement (all Level 6 felonies), and Reckless Driving (Class B misdemeanor).

The Greensburg Police Department received assistance from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, the Rush County Sheriff’s Office, and Decatur County Central Dispatch.
