Josephine E. Stenger, age 99, of West Harrison, Indiana died Saturday morning February 23, 2019, at the home of her granddaughter in Brookville.
Born January 20, 1920 in Oak Forest, Indiana she was one of three children born to the late Jacob & Hilda (Harnishfeger) Schuler. On September 28, 1937 she became the wife of Edgar McWhorter, and he preceded her in death; she later married Vincent Stenger on November 3, 1945 and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1987.
A homemaker, she also had worked at the Eckerle General Store and for her husband, Vincent Stenger Auctioneering. She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Brookville. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, and crocheting.
Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Jean Baker of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Pat Wolfer of West Harrison, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Kuntz, a brother Edward Schuler; as well as two grandchildren, Jay Wolfer and Caleb Marcum.
Family & friends may visit from 4 until 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Pastor Kevin Waltz of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and her grandson Kevin Hess will officiate the Funeral Services on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, 6:00 P.M. at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in St. Leon.
