John Bernard Middendorf Sr., 78 years old of Sunman, IN passed away peacefully July 20, 2025. John was a simple, hardworking man that enjoyed a hard day’s work and had many concrete and building businesses throughout his life. A jack of all trades, he was handy in all things that needed fixed. He would rather fix something than buy new and had the ingenuity to rig up the solution. John was a collector of anything antique, including many classic cars…and trucks…and buses. John always made sure there were adventurous trips for his kids and later for the grandkids as well. He put his heart into being a Grandpa and creating a fun experience every time he was with them. John never slowed down but would take time to enjoy winters in Florida as he got older.
John will be deeply missed by Betty, his wife of 59 years; his children John (Tina) Middendorf Jr., Jennifer Merkt, Jeffrey (Mary Lou) Middendorf, Jeanette (James Sr.) Rennekamp, and Julie (Joseph) Raver; grandchildren Raymond Merkt, Elizabeth Rennekamp-Dowers, Jessica Raver, Jimmy Rennekamp, Andrew Rennekamp, John Henry Raver, and Jed Raver; great grandson Levi Dowers; step grandchildren Frank, Ethan, Charlie and Jake Monroe, Aric and Ronnie Enochs; several step great grandchildren; siblings Richard (Norma) Middendorf and James (late Delores) Middendorf. He is preceded in death by his mother Rose Middendorf & father William Middendorf; siblings William (Audrey) Middendorf and Michael (Connie) Middendorf; and son-in-law Eric Merkt.
