A.M.D.G John D. (JD) Moritz Jr., 94, of Aurora, Indiana died on March 28, 2023. He was born in Ohio on August 21, 1928 to the late John D. Moritz Sr. and Marcella (Stanton)) Moritz. JD rode the train from Aurora to Cincinnati to attend school, graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1946 and Xavier University in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. JD met Myrna Rahe when she was working at the soda fountain in Ullrich’s drug store, and they were married on April 14, 1956. He retired from Seagram’s Distillery after a 35 year career. JD was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Korean War Veterans, and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching Xavier basketball and Notre Dame football. JD loved spending time with family and friends.
JD was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Mary Kathryn Herzog.
He is survived by his wife Myrna, daughters Rahe (Rick) Bergman, Leslie Moritz, Clair (John) Magnesio; son John D. (Lisa) Moritz III; grandchildren Carol (Doug) Wanstrath, Elliot (Heather Myers) Bergman, Charlotte Bergman, Peter and Paul Magnesio, Jacob (Brittany) Moritz, Nathan Moritz; and great-granddaughters Emery, Allie, and Ada.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora on Saturday April 15th from 10am-11am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Fr. Daniel Mahan officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Oldenburg Academy, Glenmary Home Missioners, or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
