Tonight, we’ll go into “Overtime” again on WRBI, with Terrance Arney and Leon Smith.  This evening just after our 6:00 news block, they’ll have a conversation with former Hoosier running back, Mr. Football 1992, Alex Smith.  It’s always a great talk during Overtime, right here with Terrance and Leon.

After OT, stick with us as the Reds open a new home series, welcoming the Chicago Cubs. Cincy will be looking to rebound from a couple weekend losses to the Rays, the latest Sunday 2-1.  It’s the Cubs and the Reds tonight, on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.

On the first day of competition Saturday at the Paris Olympics, Indianapolis native Sarah Bacon, along with Kassidy Cook, the team sometimes known as “Cook ‘n’ Bacon,” captured the first American medal, a silver in synchronized 3-meter springboard diving.  Also, bicyclist Chloe Dygert of Brownsburg won a bronze in the individual time trial.  And in swimming, Chris Giuliano of Notre Dame was on the men’s 4 x 100 meter relay team that won the gold.  Giuliano will also compete in as many as 4 more events throughout the games.

Sunday, Notre Dame grad Lee Kiefer defeated her American teammate Lauren Scruggs, to take gold in the foil fencing competition for a second straight time.  She entered the Paris games as the top-ranked fencer on the planet, the first American woman to reach that pinnacle.  Scruggs took the silver medal.  It was the first all-US fencing final since 2008. Kiefer becomes the first African-American fencer to win an Olympic medal in an individual women’s event for the United States. Her former teammate with the Irish, Eszter Muhari, took the bronze for Hungary.

In men’s basketball, the USA blew Serbia off the Olympic court, 110-84, powered largely by Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, but no doubt they’ll get some help during the tournament from the Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton.

The Pacers also finalized 2 deals with new players Saturday.  Second-round draft choice Tristen Newton and another guard, Quenton Jackson, both signed with Indiana.  Newton won back-to-back college championships with Connecticut.  Jackson played 3 games for the Pacers late last NBA season.

Colts owner Jim Irsay made his first in-person public appearance Sunday since he was hospitalized back in December.  He rolled into training camp at Grand Park wearing a checkered blue suit in his golf cart.  He said he was feeling good, and it was great to be there.  Irsay said he’s excited for the start of the NFL season, and he remains frustrated about the slow progress of his leg injury.
