That early Friday snowstorm closed quite a few schools across southeastern Indiana, calling off a bunch of basketball games in the process. None of the schools we cover had girls’ games scheduled for Friday night, but there were several boys’ contests on the agenda. And some of the districts that shut down went ahead and played, despite not having classes during the day. The only one of ours in that category was the Greensburg boys going to Brownstown Central– Brownstown getting an easy win, 77-41.
Morristown and North Decatur rescheduled their game for Monday evening the 22nd, and the Scottsburg at South Decatur boys’ matchup was postponed to February 6th. South Ripley told us its games with Milan, originally set for Friday, will go on today, because it’s Homecoming weekend at South Ripley. The boys’ JV contest tips off at 2:00 this afternoon, followed by homecoming festivities, then the varsity game. Matchups indefinitely postponed from Friday include Batesville at Franklin County, and Ross of Ohio visiting East Central.
Where we didn’t hear from schools about today’s contests, we figure they’re playing, so here’s the plan. The Batesville girls visit Greensburg, and we’re going to be there to broadcast the game. Pregame coverage begins around 1:15, and the action tips off at 1:30. Then this evening, back in Batesville, the Bulldog boys host Connersville, tipoff set for 7:30— we have pregame for you about 7:15. Both those games will be live, on 103.9 FM, here at WRBIradio.com, and on the new WRBI app.
Other girls’ games today and this evening include Trinity Lutheran at South Decatur at noon, then Franklin County at Indianapolis Chatard, Tri at Oldenburg Academy, and South Dearborn at Lawrenceburg, all at 1:30. Other boys’ action is East Central at Harrison of Ohio, Lawrenceburg at Jac-Cen-Del, South Decatur at Greensburg, Switzerland County at South Dearborn, and Victory College Prep at Franklin County, all tipping at 7:30 tonight.
Men’s college basketball Friday night saw Xavier edging Georgetown in a great contest, 92 to 91, but the Hoosiers getting knocked off by the 11th-ranked Badgers in Wisconsin, 91-79. Today at noon, Penn State visits Ohio State. At 1:00, Oklahoma drops in on UC’s Bearcats, and at 2:00, Purdue visits Iowa and Miami of Ohio is at Ball State. At 4:00 this afternoon, Butler hosts DePaul in Indy.
And last night in the NBA, the Pacers lost to the Trail Blazers in Portland, 118-115.
