James E. “Jimmy” Curran, 81, of Versailles passed away at 10:20 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2025 at the Willows of Greensburg. He was born in Versailles on June 5, 1944, the son of George and Eva McClure Curran. He was married to Carolyn Jean Hendricks on August 8, 1970 and she preceded him in death on October 23, 2024. Survivors include one daughter Stacy (Patrick) Land of Greensburg; three grandchildren David (Lisa) Land, Curtis Land, and Justin Land all of Greensburg; 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Curran, and his sisters Shirley Thompson and Betty Baugh. Mr. Curran was a 1963 graduate of Versailles High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army. In civilian life Jimmy worked for the Ripley County Highway Department and was employed with Pri-Pak in Sunman and Greendale for 30 years as a security guard. He enjoyed constructing models and collecting anything related to the Vietnam War. Jimmy was a 68year member of the Tyson Methodist Church and was a member of the Versailles American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Sweet officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military graveside honors by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will also be on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
