Jimmie Dale Gilbert, 74, of Dillsboro passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. Jimmie was born on Saturday, November 20, 1948 in Whitesburg, Kentucky; son of Henry and Eva (Day) Gilbert. Jimmie married the love of his life, Janetta “Jan” (Lacey) Gilbert on June 5, 1970 and have been married for 52 years. Jimmie retired from Seagram’s where he worked as a machinist for 26 years. Jimmie was a member of the Dearborn Baptist Church where he was the Sunday School superintendent and church clerk. Jimmie enjoyed wood working, working on railroad models, and was known as the family handyman. He also enjoyed golfing, playing guitar, spending time outdoors, and traveling. Jimmie most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jimmie will be missed by his wife, Jan Gilbert of Dillsboro; son Travis (Dianna) Gilbert of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; daughters Sarah (Brian) Massey of Dillsboro and Lacey (Jason) Luckhaupt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; sisters Glenna Fields of Aurora, Lorene (Richard) Stahl of Edinburgh, Indiana, HenriEtta (Norman) Meyer of Lawrenceburg, and Sherri Quicksaw of Lawrenceburg; as well as grandchildren Luke Gilbert, Noah (Madison) Gilbert, Ethan Gilbert, Emily (Christian) Daniell, Sydney Massey, Elijah Luckhaupt, Abigail Luckhaupt, and Lydia Luckhaupt.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eva Gilbert; brothers-in-law Wayne Gompf, Bruce Fields, and Junior Getz; sister Anna Gompf; and brother Norman “Gale” Gilbert.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Jimmie from 1:00-3:00PM Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the Dearborn Baptist Church, 9638 IN-48, Aurora, IN 47001. A service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Darrell Sparks officiating. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Jimmie to the Dearborn Baptist Church.
